I’ve heard it said the only difference between men and boys is the price of the toys.
Lately, I’ve gotten some pretty serious toys. I’ve picked up a new DSLR…which I adore. I can’t wait to sit the kids down in front of a blanket and snap away. Should be awesome fun, especially in post-production. Finding suitable backgrounds for them will be a ball.
And I got a nice (and I mean nice) graphics tablet. This isn’t to be confused with the tablet you can use as a sort of computer. Those aren’t called “graphics tablets”. I don’t know what they’re called, but they’re not Tablet PCs either, because those are, best of my knowledge, laptops with reversible monitors you can use as touch input devices. I’m talking about my Wacom Intuos5 Touch graphics tablet.
(Yeah, yeah, I know. I went to the store and took it back because I just didn’t feel right about the money. I exchanged it for a lesser model – the Wacom Bamboo Create – and while I liked the size of the Bamboo better, it’s performance wasn’t up to snuff. I missed several features of the bigger, more powerful Intuos, and my wife told me to go get it back. So I did.)
And of course, I have Photoshop. I’m thinking of updating my Visual Studio from 2010 to 2012 too, but I’ve heard some good and some bad about that, so I’m not sure I should do that just yet.
But the toys, while fun, aren’t the fun en totem. The good times have really been rolling, and this weekend they continue. We’re going to pick up plants to put in our planters! We’ll have flowers this spring, and my loving spouse couldn’t be more excited. She’s almost like a sleeping dog she’s so hyped.
So I’ll sit while she putters in the “garden” and play with my toys while she plays with hers. Ought to be awesome.
On the horizon, someday, is a better tablet for us all (I really need four of ‘em, I guess), and the kick-a$$ Samsung Note2. But that’s a toy for another day.
Hey, at least I’m done with keyboards, right?
My beloved reminds me there are lots of other goodies we could spend that money on instead, and she’s right. But toys are fun, and their Siren Song is alluring, isn’t it?
What’s your weakness?
