Well, today’s Shoot ‘n’ ‘Shop day, so I dutifully went out and took pictures…of our flower pots again.
I’m sorry, I know this boring, but I love the colors and the variance in light you can get just by taking pictures in different weather. For one thing, the sky was sort of overcast when I took these (it cleared up later, but the sun moved on, so net gain zero there). Then, I had a hard time remembering what I did to the initial pictures in Photoshop, so I had to reopen a few and look ‘em over.
There just isn’t all that much to snap pictures of around here, and I’m not one for piling into the car to try and find something.
But you can mark the progress of the plant growth using these posts, so that’s about as much fun as watching grass grow, right?
Anyway, here’s a few shots. I can’t wait to see what WordPress decides is a good background color for them.
The heavy sky made the pictures come out a bit dark, and doing some black and white adjustments and playing with the levels didn’t work the way I hoped, so this one seems…gloomy, I think.
This one’s better; the colors on these reddish-magenta ones really pops off the image.
I do mute the greens and yellows to help them come out, to be honest.
My camera had a tough time finding the target in the one above. But I love how the yellow comes forward against the pink tones.
Group shot of the yellows in one pot there. It’s hard to tone down the shouting greens and not dull the yellows. I didn’t make it here.
This remains one of my favorite pots. The blue flowers are so awesome, and aren’t retouched, color-wise. Very cool, and those icy white-gray leafy things really help the colors jump out.
Sadly, we’ve lost a few along the way. My wife thinks maybe she overdosed them on fertilizer by misreading the instructions. Oh well. They were nice while they lasted. The one above had a lot of blue/purple tones and I think they didn’t translate very well after I “adjusted” them, unfortunately.
These little red guys are among my favorites of the flowers. I just love the shapes of them. Reminds me of some images of fairies or something. All that’s missing is a little face.
I also think this “half-sepia” effect is pretty nice for making the color of the flowers stand out against grass and whatnot.
So, that’s it for this week. Sorry to be repetitive with the subject, but I don’t have much else to shoot, so…
See ya next week!
