I had four days off this past weekend. It wasn’t enough.
I don’t know why, but when I take time off, no matter how much, it always feels like it’s not enough. So I’m tired today, and a bit dragged out.
I’m still fighting my way through all the computer programming things I’ve struggled with previously, but now I’m making progress. C# is going well, and that’s going to open doorways to MVC which previously seemed not only locked, but barred by six foot thick vault doors like in a bank. Nevertheless, the learning curve is there, and time is ticking away at me.
But I keep at it, almost every night. I did take some time away from it this weekend — it was my wife‘s birthday, after all — but for the most part, I just kept my head shoved into as many training videos as I could handle. More of that on the docket for tonight, too.
Now it’s starting to occur to me I could actually rebuild this entire intranet site, the way I need it built, from scratch. I don’t know enough about web site architecture to do that, probably, but I theoretically could begin that process. In that scenario, the databases are accessed by a single application and all the other functionality of the web site is added to the first one. One thing at a time, the site is layered up, with only the one back end database access point, so when we move away from Microsoft Access to something more scalable (and meant for this sort of work), I have just one place to make that change. As long as the names of the fields don’t change, the individual pages wouldn’t need to be updated.
Unfortunately, I think some of the problems with the onesy-twosy databases sprinkled throughout our network are field names. *Sigh* Bad design, again.
Ah well. I’m not ready to tackle anything on that scale yet.
How’s your Wednesday going?

You’ll do this thing. I know you will. 🙂 And you’ll do it well, too.
Thanks love. I couldn’t do it without your unflagging support. Love you!
You are such a learner! Look at you thinking of the big picture. 🙂 I hope you get a chance to implement those large-scale improvements.
Thanks, Spark! I’d love to. Problem is, I’m short on skill right now. I’m hoping that changes so I’ll only be short on TIME soon. 😉

On my way!
