Why Most Movie Sequels Aren’t As Good — The Final Battle

  1. By the way, have you seen the directors cut of T2? It’s a long amazing movie.

You know, I think that’s the one the kids and I watched this past winter. It didn’t have a lot of extra stuff in it, but what was there was nice.

  2. That’s quite an analysis! I think part of the problem is also the motivation of the creators. Motivation for movie #1: “This would make a super-excellent movie! I’m totally inspired!” Results: Creative awesomeness. Motivation for movies #2+ “Let’s milk this cash cow until it croaks.” Results: A dry, tired cow. (With notable exceptions, of course.)

LOL! Good points all, Spark! I’m not sure about the precision of Movie #1’s motivation but I’m sure it happens more often with the original than the sequels. (See, I almost wrote “…it happens more with #1 than #2…” and realized the bodily function humor reference would be… well. 😉 )
