I wish I could tell you I’m becoming a better writer, or a better person, or God help me, a better Christian. I’m not. But I am becoming a better programmer.
I just did something I’ve tried like the dickens to avoid doing for four years. I sent an email with an attachment through my server.
I emailed an Excel spreadsheet to myself and two colleagues after being saddled with the task of figuring out how to compare a report from yesterday to one for today. It’s a single date, so no big. I create a unique line ID for each row, and then search for that ID on the alternate report.
It finds them, just fine, and it emails, just fine, but is that enough?
What do you think?
Now I’m expected to make the program think. Does it have any records which are labeled as the flag we’re looking for? I bet I’ll be required now to figure out how to make the determination whether or not there will be some. And that is another ball game.
Stay tuned. Or, y’know…don’t. This is only tense for me.
