Today’s a better day. Full stop, a better day.
So far, I’ve been able to pawn off a problem onto the new ATR Coordinator (it’s her responsibility, and I can offer guidance, maybe, but it’s not my job, so it’s not as cold as it sounds), solve a vexing issue with my intranet site, and get the issue our customer had with his external access resolved (supposedly; we can’t test yet).
The vexing problem was trying to figure out where in the code a certain bit of logic should go. If this happens, and this is true, then do that. Turns out, I was trying to cram it into the wrong file altogether. I put the same logic onto one of the pages and voila! – success. Niiiiice.
Next up, I have to design the new pages/application(s) that bit of logic points to. I can get started on that, but the hardest part is over. I should (!) have smoother sailing from here.
My boss asked me to take over a report he’d been doing “monthly” (ha!) for another division. Okay, sure. I start doing them, and this morning he says he needs me to do them weekly. Oh, and adjust this and that and that other thing, too. Oooookay, I can handle that. Onto my weekly Monday report list it goes. I generate one for him on the fly and send it off, and get some brownie points that way. Eh.
Then I remembered I had to get off another weekly report which I’ve totally spaced off for a bit. So I fire it off.
Now, I’m sitting here with enough time to bang this post out while I stew on what my new intranet application(s) will look like. I also happened to find a couple of other pages I built a couple of years ago which – yep, you guessed it – can use a re-shoot. If there’s time, I’ll circle back to that. It goes on my list of “continuous improvement” projects, and will help me get the percentage up. I need to top 90% on time or early to get the cupcake raise I got last year.
Still plenty of time to have the day fall apart, of course, but for now? Not too shabby. Not too shabby at all.
How’s it by you?
